Who Is The Black Chinaman?

Saving someone's life is like falling in love. The best drug in the world. For days, sometimes weeks afterwards, you walk the streets, making infinite whatever you see. Once, for a few weeks, I couldn't feel the earth - everything I touched became lighter. Horns played in my shoes. Flowers fell from my pockets. You wonder if you've become immortal, as if you've saved your own life as well. God has passed through you. Why deny it, that for a moment there - why deny that for a moment there, God was you? I realised that my training was useful in less than ten percent of the calls, and saving lives was rarer than that. After a while, I grew to understand that my role was less about saving lives than about bearing witness. I was a grief mop. It was enough that I simply turned up. Living and working back in Brunei, after a 14 year absence... Also known as: Brunei, NASA, Bruise-Eye, Bru, Cheesecake, Nick, BruNick, BruMedNick, Two Step etc etc etc

Oh...And An Endurance Record To Boot...

I forgot to add...did my endurance record over the weekend...

It's been a while since I last lived in a shirt for over 24 hours, but it was interesting to say the least...I calculated it to 36 hours on the trot without sleep...there was a shut eye, but I was still keeping one ear open for anything...

All started on Friday...was around 1700 that I got a phone call from St John in Sydney saying that my accreditation papers arn't in yet for WYD...WTF? I sent them off months ago...anyway, I said look, just send me another copy, and I'll get them to you Monday, I'll figure them out Sunday when I finish work...went to work with PJ and Shingles (another story for another day) at the Alex Hills Hotel...left here at 2030...got there at 2200, then worked there until 0330...now, the plan was, to stick around Brisvagas and go to the casino and just bum around until 0800, when I was supposed to be dropped off at Eagle Farm...they decided to leave at 0430 back to SunCo...a quarter of the way in, Shingles decided he was too tired to continue driving, and PJ can't drive with his revoked license....who did that leave behind? So, drove all the way back home, and arrived at my house at 0555...the GPS said so...left my wallet in the car too...anyway, managed to get a lift back to Eagle Farm...and they were nice enough to pick up my wallet from Shingle's place too...at 0710...we finally got to EF at 0830...and got told that the gates did not open until 1030...so, we were getting paid for two hours to just sit there and wait...not complaining...anyway, finished there at 1800, got a lift to Redcliffe, and started my shift there at 1900...finished at 0130, but Oli and I had to go to the copshop to give a statement about the guy from earlier (refer to other post about the threat)...that finally finished, we went to Caboolture Maccas to have a late dinner at 0330...finally got on the road and arrived home at 0445...finally got to sleep with some help at 0545...I was surviving on No Doze Plus, Panadine Forte, V's Berocca, and Maccas...healthy, I'm sure...

Blargh...

Be safe...
