Who Is The Black Chinaman?

Saving someone's life is like falling in love. The best drug in the world. For days, sometimes weeks afterwards, you walk the streets, making infinite whatever you see. Once, for a few weeks, I couldn't feel the earth - everything I touched became lighter. Horns played in my shoes. Flowers fell from my pockets. You wonder if you've become immortal, as if you've saved your own life as well. God has passed through you. Why deny it, that for a moment there - why deny that for a moment there, God was you? I realised that my training was useful in less than ten percent of the calls, and saving lives was rarer than that. After a while, I grew to understand that my role was less about saving lives than about bearing witness. I was a grief mop. It was enough that I simply turned up. Living and working back in Brunei, after a 14 year absence... Also known as: Brunei, NASA, Bruise-Eye, Bru, Cheesecake, Nick, BruNick, BruMedNick, Two Step etc etc etc

Whoa...what a day!

Firstly, it wasn't my fault...it was real old piping...and 2, the thing was stuck, I sware!...I burst the water mains...it's a long story...

I was told by my dad to go clean out the filter from the mains into the water tank...so there I am, trying to open up the casing for the filter...the thing was jammed shut...all the wrestling with the thing was really getting to me...so I was going to go give it a couple more trys before I gave up, all the while cursing at the infernal contraption...(one, two, grunt) *KRIK* KERSHEERRRRRR...uh oh...pipes broken...BELOW THE CUT OFF VALVE! And then came all the water...

First thing first, call Sis...Uh, Sis, uh, I kinda broke the water pipe...there's a leak...it's pretty big...what should I do? Like, should I call dad first or Mike (the handyman)? (Sis) Call Mike and then call dad...YOU explain what happened...I wasn't home...*BEEP BEEP BEEP*...thanks Sis...

Well, ran outside to turn off the water from the water tree (there's 5 houses that are supplied from the mains outside with an individual cut off for each house on this little "tree", and from here, it's piped to the tank then into the house, so there's always some water somewhere), then ran back inside to call Mike and Mike (my dad)...

In the end, the pipe was replaced with new copper ones (the old one was galvanised iron, and was choked with all the sedimentry buildup), a new valve was installed too, so instead of a "key" valve (one with a wheel), it's now just one of those lever ones, so that should make life easier...

There's always tomorrow to try that damned filter again...:)
